PAHS Track: Boys clinch second consecutive NTL title

The current edition of the Port Allegany boys’ track team doesn’t collect banner headlines, shatter school records, or boast state-ranked superstars.

They just win.

With Northern Potter safely in their rear-view mirror and back-to-back North Tier League titles in reach, the Gators overwhelmed Sheffield and Cameron County to put the finishing touches on their second consecutive undefeated dual-meet season.

Ben Osani stole the show at Sheffield last Thursday night, qualifying for districts in the javelin with a throw of 147 feet and completing his quadruple with wins in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the 400-meter relay. Denzel Middleton (110/300 hurdles, 400 relay) added a triple and team depth took care of the rest, with Port athletes winning all but two of 17 events in a 118-23 victory over the Wolverines.

The girls were equally dominant, as Emily Schena (100/300 hurdles, 400/1600 relays) and Jessica French (800, 1600, 3200, 3200 relay) both quadrupled and Bryanna Evens (200, 400, 400 relay) tripled in the Gators’ 114-27 win. Evens also had a good showing at the Coudersport Invitational on Saturday, finishing second in all three sprints.

The story was the same in Emporium on Monday afternoon, with 13 different athletes earning first-place points as the boys’ squad rolled over Cameron County by a 107-34 score. Jason Roush (800, 1600 relay, 3200 relay) tripled for the 7-0 Gators, who officially repeated as NTL champs with the win.

The girls beat the Red Raiders 117-22 to finish the year at 5-2, with Bryanna Evens (100, 200, 400, 400 relay) quadrupling and Emily Schena (100/300 hurdles, 400 relay) and Jessica French (800, 1600, 3200) tripling in the win. After shuffling the lineups to give more athletes a chance to compete, head coach George Riley called the performances a “team effort.”
