Now in his third season as the starting quarterback for Thiel College, 2006 Port Allegany High School alumnus Wille Bova continues to add his name to the Tomcats’ record book.
On Oct. 3, Bova completed 22 of 33 passes for 304 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead Thiel to a 24-21 comeback victory over the Westminster Titans, a performance which earned the senior signal-caller the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week award. The second touchdown, an 86-yard strike to Brendan Taylor to give Thiel (2-3, 1-2 PAC) a 21-14 lead with 1:27 left in the game, was also the second-longest passing play in school history.
Westminster surged back to tie, and just 0:18 remained when the Tomcats offense took the field at their own 32. Bova coolly fired a 30-yard completion to Taylor, then found Ross Gorgano for another nine yards down to the 29, setting up kicker John Madeline for the game-winning field goal as time expired.
This is Bova’s second PAC Player of the Week honor. Last October, he set or tied Thiel single-game records for passing attempts (63), completions (32), and yardage (374) as he threw for four TDs and ran for another in the Tomcats’ 50-44 four-overtime win over Bethany. The Political Science major and Dean’s List student ranks among Thiel’s all-time leaders in most major passing categories, with several career records within reach.
